NBA pre-draft interview quotes from Trey Burke, a 6-1, 187-pound guard who played college basketball at Michigan. Here's what he had to say the day before the 2013 NBA Draft:
Q: Do you have any indications from anyone on where you’ll be going in the NBA Draft?
Trey Burke: Honestly, no. Anywhere from two to eight is the range that I’m expecting to go. But, I really don’t know what team I’m going to or where I’ll fall. I’m just excited for the whole opportunity.
Q. How frustrating is it that you don’t know where you’ll go?
Burke: It’s not frustrating at all. I’m here at the NBA Draft. This is a dream come true for me. It’s a little overwhelming, but I wouldn’t say frustrating. It’s a long process. Not knowing where you’re going, it gives you some type of concern. But it still gives me some type of hope that I’m going to be in the Green Room and that’s all that matters.
Q. How’d your workout with Sacramento go?
Burke: I worked out there and it went real well. I loved Coach Malone and the energy that he brought, not only on the court, but off the court. I think I’ll fit in great in Sacramento. Anywhere I go, I’m going to bring a humble mentality, with a hard-working mentality, and try to come in with a winning mentality, most importantly.
Q. How do you think things will be different for you as a pro?
Burke: It’s much different. It’s a professional level now. I’m able to do some things that I wasn’t necessarily able to do when I was in Michigan, when I was considered an amateur. It’s a big jump and I’m still adjusting to it, but I know it’s a process that goes along with going from college to the NBA. I think I’m handling it well so far.
Q. How do you respond to the criticism that you’re not big enough or quick enough?
Burke: Just showing that I am big enough and quick enough. Right now I’m not playing, so they can’t really see. But, there’s always going to be doubts about my size. There’s nothing I can do about my size, that’s something that’s natural. But I think I’ve overcome those doubts by playing with heart. I know my skill level. I know what I can do on the court and I play towards my strengths.
