The following are some Zach LaVine pre-draft interview quotes from Wednesday, one day before the 2014 NBA Draft. LaVine played basketball at UCLA and is a promising, high-flying NBA prospect:
Question: What’s going to be going through your mind when Adam Silver calls your name tomorrow night?
Zach LaVine: : I’m just going to be so ecstatic and my emotions will be all over the place, but I know it’s going to be fun.
Question: If you played LeBron James in a game of one-on-one, what would the score be?
LaVine: : I know he’s LeBron James, but I’m gonna go at him like anybody else. He’s a big dude, and he’d probably post me up, first off. He might beat me 11-4, or something like that.
Question: It seems like you’ve been moving up lately, especially once workouts started to kick into high gear. Did you think that would happen?
LaVine: : Yeah. During the season, I thought I was pretty high. I think I was kind of around seven or eight, and then it dropped, which I didn’t understand, because you’re the same player when you’re put at eight. Coming into this process, I knew I’d have to prove some doubters wrong. I’m a confident person. I feel like I had a really, really good Pre-Draft Camp. I’m just thankful to be here. Thankful that I put in the hard work.
Question: Did you feel like you were maybe held back a little at UCLA?
LaVine: : Maybe I didn’t get to show everything I can do. But, I had a great season at UCLA. We had a team that had five potential draft picks. We were really good. Coach (Steve) Alford had a really good idea for us. We went to the Sweet Sixteen, and probably could have gone even further. I’m happy about the way my freshman season at UCLA went.
Question: How do you feel about some of your teammates also getting picked tomorrow night?
LaVine: : I hope for the best for them. I’m definitely going to be paying attention to what happens to them. They’re great guys, great people, and great players as well. So, I hope that they go to the right fit, not just as high as they can go, but also the right fit.
Question: You grew up in Seattle. Was it frustrating not having an NBA team these last six or seven years, knowing there was a team there for such a long time?
LaVine: : I think I was in seventh grade when they left. I went to a couple of games growing up, went to see Kobe and LeBron play. I was sad. Hopefully they get a team back. Seattle is definitely a great basketball area, we have a lot of pros in the league, and also great fans of the game.
