DeMarcus Cousins pre-draft interview
Center DeMarcus Cousins is expected to be one of the top picks in the 2010 NBA Draft, which takes place Thursday night, June 24. Here's some of what Cousins said to the media the day before the big event:
Q: Who have you worked out for over the past couple of weeks? How did they go?
Cousins: I worked out with New Jersey, Philadelphia and Sacramento. I think they went great. They were tough workouts. I guess you could say me and Derrick (Favors) went on a tour. We met up with each other at every workout, but they were all good. Me and Derrick have been in competition since high school, so we know each other pretty well.
Q: What was the hardest workout? Was it Philadelphia? And do you prefer that type of workout?
Cousins: Yea, it probably was Philadelphia. Me and Derrick had to bang and were killing each other. I do prefer that type of work out, you get to see who the better player is.
Q: How many times did you and Derrick work out together? And what were some of the differences in the workouts.
Cousins: Three. Sacramento and Jersey, they were similar. Philadelphia, we actually went at each other, that was the biggest difference.
Q. You guys are neck and neck and arguably the two best big men in the draft. How do you feel about being able to go against him head-to-head?
Cousins: Itís tough, but its part of it. I guess people are saying that we are the best big men in the draft right now, and teams are trying to make a big decision. They are putting a lot into both of us and they are trying to make the best choice.
Q: How do you think you would fit in with the Kings? What would it be like to play along side of Tyreke Evans?
Cousins: I think I would fit in well, fill my roll and produce. I believe I could fit in well with any team. I am going to learn my roll and go in and produce. It would be fun. Tyreke is part of the Cal (John Calipari) Family. He is a great player. I think we could have a good outside/inside combo.
Q: If you could make a case for yourself, why should you be drafted?
Cousins: I am the best player in the draft. Itís that simple.
Q: What makes you the best player in this draft?
Cousins: I am the most dominate, and I believe I am the biggest game changer. I believe I am the best talent in the draft.
Q: If you are the best player, than what is stopping teams from talking about taking you 1, 2 or 3. Is it work ethic problems from Kentucky? What is following you around here?
Cousins: Maybe I am not the fit they need with their team right now. Thatís probably what it is.
