Euroleague Team Capsules:

Aris TT Bank -- Euroleague.net reports: Aris inked a pair of veteran Euroleague playmakers in Spyros Panteliadis and Giorgos Kalaitzis, a couple of sharpshooters in Alex Scales and Simonas Serapinas, and a new frontline featuring Giannis Giannoulis, Jeremiah Massey, Kevin Fletcher and Savas Eliadis. The top returnees include playmaker Terrell Castle, defensive ace and Greek basketball legend Giorgos Sigalas and center Mike Wilkinson. Coach Andrea Mazzon, who guided the team to the ULEB Cup Final and third place in the Greek League, also returns to the bench. A combination of experience, talent and hunger to prove itself again - not to mention the support of some of the most loyal fans anywhere - make Aris a team that no opponent can take even the least bit lightly.

Benetton Treviso -- Euroleague.net reports: Among the notable arrivals come a pair of forwards, young buck Angelo Gigli and one of last season's Euroleague surprises, Spencer Nelson. The return of veteran center Joey Beard will solidify the frontcourt, while perimeter newcomers Terrell Lyday, Richie Frahm and Nick George mix experience and youth. Benetton welcomes all of them to an established core made up of guards Nikos Zisis and Marco Mordente, plus forwards Matteo Soragna and Marcus Goree. Of course, youngsters like center Gino Cuccarolo can always explode into stardom at any moment, another reason that Benetton is followed by fans well beyond Treviso every season. In its backcourt, Benetton dealt with the departure of last year's top Euroleague scorer, Drew Nicholas, by calling on Lyday and Frahm. Lyday led his only previous Euroleague team, Adecco Asvel, in scoring, assists and steals just two seasons ago, so he knows what it takes.

Cibona -- Euroleague.net reports: Over the summer, Cibona held onto some key players, inked several experienced free agents, and brought back others who used to wear its jersey. Point guard Davor Kus, defensive ace Marin Rozic, swingman Chris Warren, veteran Jurica Zuza and promising big men Luksa Andric and Alen Trepalovac are back. At the same time, Cibona called home three former players: shooter Marijan Mance, point guard Vedran Morovic and center Marton Bader. The newcomers include Brent Wright, the 2004-05 ULEB Cup MVP, and Jerry McCullough, a reliable veteran playmaker who will make his Euroleague debut. Head coach Drazen Anzulovic is back, too, and he knows that taking one game at a time will be important if his team is to reach even bigger heights this season. McCullough must replace Cibona's most charismatic player in recent years, Scoonie Penn, but he seems the right man to do it.

Climamio Bologna -- Euroleague.net reports: Shooting star Marco Belinelli is ready to step up as the team leader at just 20 years old, while versatile Stefano Mancinelli now has the chance to show all his talent. Rodolfo Rombaldoni and Thomas Ress also return to the team, while Climamio landed marquee free agents at each and every position, too. Such is the case at point guard, where veteran playmaker and two-time All-Euroleague selection Tyus Edney will be the court general and super-skilled Steffen Hamann will learn from him. Kristaps Janicenoks, one of the Europe’s most underrated guards, arrives full of scoring skills, while Preston Shumpert promises an all-around production. Rebounding aces Vasco Evtimov and James Thomas, as well as super scorer David Bluthenthal, round out a deep, talented team ready to meet the big expectations that come with playing in Basket City. Climamio made a brilliant offseason move by landing Edney to provide stability and leadership where they are needed most, at point guard. Edney, a Euroleague winner with Zalgiris in 1999, almost willed Olympiacos to the Final Four last season.

CSKA Moscow -- Euroleague.net reports: Although CSKA brings back a majority of the players from last year's title run, the team figures to be even stronger with the return from injury of 2005 All-Euroleague center David Andersen, who missed much of last season. Coach Ettore Messina will again rely on All-Euroleague first-teamer and Final Four MVP Theo Papaloukas and sharpshooter Trajan Langdon, an All-Euroleague second-team choice. That trio plus Final Four heroes J.R. Holden, David Vanterpool, Matjaz Smodis and Aleksey Savrasenko make up a core lineup of seasoned professionals that is hard to match. The bench boasts the experience of center Thomas Van Den Spiegel and shooter Zakhar Pachoutine, not to mention young talents Nikita Kurbanov, Anatoliy Kashirov, Anton Ponkrashov and Andrei Voroncevich. All will be needed as CSKA takes aim at defending its title as well as reaching a remarkable fifth consecutive Final Four. Though he almost always comes off the bench, Papaloukas is the heart and soul of CSKA, a source of instant leadership the moment he steps on court. One of the tallest point guards of his generation, Papaloukas sees the floor like few others, and uses that height advantage to create for teammates.

DKV Joventut -- Euroleague.net reports: Proud former continental champion DKV Joventut of Spain continues its return to prominence in 2006-07 by rejoining Europe's top competition for the first time in more than a decade. After winning the FIBA Europe Cup title last season, Joventut chose to keep most of its roster intact. Legendary head coach Aito Garcia is back along with the team superstar, Rudy Fernandez, who helped Spain to win the World Championships this summer. Point guards Elmer Bennett and Marcelinho Huertas, versatile forward Lubos Barton, team captain Paco Vazquez and big men Dimitri Flis, Robert Archibald and Andy Betts are all back, as is teen sensation Ricky Rubio, who could make his Euroleague debut at age 15. Joventut completed its roster by adding swingman Ferran Laviña, athletic power forward Charles Gaines and big man Andrew Sullivan. Garcia will be loyal to his basketball philosophy: many subs, intense defense and up-tempo offense. Joventut is not just back in the Euroleague, but ready to prove that it belongs. Even at age 36, Bennett remains one of the best playmakers around, and his vast Euroleague experience will mean a lot to this team. Bennett's outstanding court vision is a blessing for all those who take the court with him. Chief among his running mates is Fernandez, who in his debut Euroleague season could be one of the revelations of the competition.

Dynamo Moscow -- Euroleague.net reports: Among its lofty goals, Dynamo no doubt wants to challenge CSKA for local prominence. To that end, the team injected an already competitive roster with some of the best free agents available, including swingmen Sergey Monya and Travis Hansen, and power forward Miroslav Raicevic. They join a list of valuable returnees that includes playmakers Mire Chatman and Bojan Popovic, team captain Dmitry Domani, shooter Valentin Kubrakov, forward Antonis Fotsis and center Lazaros Papadopoulos. Last but not least, legendary head coach Dusan Ivkovic is back for one of the most exciting challenges in his career - taking Dynamo to the next level and making a splash in the 2006-07 Euroleague! Dynamo's backcourt starts with Chatman, a true team leader in whom Ivkovic puts full trust. Chatman was the 2004-05 Euroleague regular season assists leader with Pau-Orthez and Dynamo's top scorer in ULEB Cup play last season. In other words, he is always dangerous with the ball, whether passing or shooting. Popovic, among the most talented young guards in Europe, can play a major role off the bench, as he did in last season's ULEB Cup final.

Efes Pilsen -- Euroleague.net reports: To its well-established core of competitors, Efes went out and added an explosive backcourt that includes the top two scorers in continental competitions last season, guards Drew Nicholas and Horace Jenkins. Experienced, dependable backup Cuneyt Erden also joined the guard rotation, while in the frontcourt, Efes added shot-blocking ace Marcus Haislip. With solid returnees like Ermal Kuqo, Niksa Prkacin and Kerem Gonlum inside, plus shooters Antonio Granger and Cenk Akyol on the wings, Efes boasts size, scoring and versatility like never before as it once again chases its dream of crashing the Final Four! The biggest changes for Efes, both in number and style, come in the backcourt. Nicholas, a smooth operator who can knock down shots on the move from anywhere, won the last Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy in his first Euroleague season for Benetton Treviso. Jenkins poured in even more points per game to lead the rankings in the ULEB Cup regular season for Hapoel Jerusalem.

Eldo Basket Napoli -- Euroleague.net reports: One of the big surprises in European basketball last season was Eldo Basket Napoli, which won the Italian Cup and reached the Italian League semifinals to earn its way into the 2006-07 Euroleague. The club now has plenty ambition to show what it can do on an international stage. To that end, Napoli has kept much of its successful roster intact while making some valuable additions, such as playmaker Tierre Brown and steals specialist Jeff Trepagnier, who returns to the club. Also coming back are two players Napoli loaned away last season, big guard Matteo Malaventura, who could play a major role this year, and small forward Simone Flamini. They will join forces with top returnees like three-point specialist Jay Larranaga, athletic forward Michel Morandais, playmaker Valerio Spinelli, rebounding ace Mason Rocca or big man Ansu Sesay. Experienced head coach Pierluigi Bucchi will be back on the bench, where he made sure his team could compete with the best last season. Things should be no different in Napoli's Euroleague debut. One key to Napoli’s chances will be Brown, who arrives to replace last year's Italian League scoring champ, Lynn Greer.

Fenerbahce Ulker -- Euroleague.net reports: Even though the 2006-07 season marks its debut in the Euroleague, Fenerbahce Ulker Sport is far from a rookie where it matters most, on the court. The dean of Turkish coaches, Aydin Ors, and a group of veterans give Fenerbahce fans every reason to expect competitiveness from the first tipoff. Drawn in part from Ulker teams that never missed a Top 16 in the Euroleague, the new Fenerbahce claims more than just years of experience on a roster with eight players 28 or older. There is sharpshooter Ibrahim Kutluay, the only Turkish player to have ever won a Euroleague crown. There is rebounding ace Mirsad Turkcan, a two-time Euroleague MVP choice and three-time Final Four participant. And there is super-talent Will Solomon, coming off his first Final Four experience. The list gets longer and stronger. Inside, centers Kaspars Kambala, Oguz Savas and Semih Erden offer plenty of size and toughness. On the perimeter veterans Damir Mrsic and Ira Clark promise leadership and scoring. From the bench, Omer Onan, Zeki Gulay and Rasim Basak add all-purpose help. Together, they bring something few Euroleague newcomers can count on, the know-how to make immediate impact in the continent's top competition. Backcourt production is assured by Solomon, Mrsic and Kutluay. After averaging the second most points in both the Euroleague regular season and Quarterfinal Playoffs last year, Solomon kept rolling all the way to the Final Four and led all scorers in the title game, even though he and Maccabi lost.

Le Mans -- Euroleague.net reports: Even in a city known for its 24-hour auto race, basketball has always held its place of pride, and now Le Mans has a team that to make its fans as proud as ever. There is no time like the present for Le Mans, which won both the French League and cup titles in a historical 2005-06 season. Making it to the Euroleague means sustaining a remarkable competitive tradition that began more than 60 years ago with a war-era women's team. Le Mans has managed to keep most of its roster while adding veteran bomber Nebojsa Bogavac and athletic forward Frederic Adjiwanou, as well as bringing back one of its former stars, Sandro Nicevic, a reliable center who might prove to be among Europe's best. Those additions add value to a young yet experienced group of homegrown talents headed by playmakers Yannick Bokolo and Pape Philippe Amagou, and defensive center Alain Koffi. Just as last season, Kenny Gregory and Eric Gregory will provide points, rebounds and showtime. Don’t be surprised if Le Mans becomes one of the most attractive teams to watch in its first Euroleague season. At point guard, Le Mans will count on Bokolo to keep maturing as he certainly did with France's national team at the last World Championships. A precocious talent, Bokolo has good court vision and outstanding athleticism, needing only improved shot selection to complete his game. Amagou, another tremendous athlete, is a solid shooter and can drive to the basket like few playmakers.

Lottomatica Roma -- Euroleague.net reports: The return of Italy's capital to the orbit of great basketball cities in the Euroleague is among the biggest news of the 2006-07 season. The fact that Lottomatica Roma brings with it a signature Euroleague player of the decade, Dejan Bodiroga, only adds to the satisfaction. It can safely be said that whatever team Bodiroga plays for will compete. The new Roma head coach, Jasmin Repesa, will make doubly sure of that. Roma has added carefully to a roster that boasts prime-time players and experience. Besides a three-time Euroleague winner and two-time Final Four MVP in Bodiroga, Roma has back electric guard David Hawkins, steady playmaker Vlado Ilievski, long-range shooter Alex Righetti and energetic subs Alessandro Tonolli and Jacopo Giachetti. Newcomers include Luca Garri, an active rebounder and defender, on the inside, and Daniele Cinciarini, a slashing scorer, at guard. Roma will rely on that balanced cast, and the strong ambitions of its coach and team leader, to try to make some serious noise in the 2006-07 Euroleague. Roma's two biggest scorers after Bodiroga last season return to the backcourt. Vlado Ilievski, at point guard, brings plenty of Euroleague experience as he enters the prime of his career. Steady, mistake-free floor generalship is Ilievski's strength, and if he defends on the ball as well as he has done in the past, Roma will be in good hands. The same can be said for shooting guard, where Hawkins is a spectacular presence all over the court.

Maccabi Elite -- Euroleague.net reports: The faces may be new, but the expectations are high as ever. After three straight appearances in the Euroleague final, including back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005, Maccabi Tel Aviv has undergone some major changes. But that doesn't mean that the Israeli champs aspire to anything less than reaching yet another Final Four. New head coach Neven Spahija has taken over the bench, while point guard Will Bynum, swingman Rodney Buford, rising star Simas Jasaitis and promising Lior Eliyahu have joined the lineup. First-team All-Euroleague center Nikola Vujcic and the team's only other returning starter, swingman Tal Burstein, top a list of returnees that also includes captain Derrick Sharp, forward Sharon Shason, and big men Jamie Arnold and Yaniv Green. Quickly blending those newcomers with the title-team holdovers will be Maccabi's big challenge this season. The sky is always the only limit for this team that is the pride of Israel, and Maccabi fans will have particular fun this season watching a new cast of talents try to reach that high. The biggest changes come in Maccabi's re-built backcourt, where Buford takes over for departed Anthony Parker, a two-time Euroleague MVP. Buford's all-around game - solid shooting, driving, creative and defensive skills - makes him an ideal candidate to succeed.

Olympiacos -- Euroleague.net reports: A season after coming closer than anyone expected to the Final Four, the prospect of playing for a Euroleague title at home in Athens next spring has lit a fire of ambition under Olympiacos. The Reds spared no effort this offseason in building a team that can challenge for the 2007 Final Four. First, the Reds lured the competition's most successful coach of late, Pini Gershon, to a bench that now boasts some of the top free agents available over the summer. The Olympiacos backcourt has been recast with proven Euroleague stars like Scoonie Penn, Arvydas Macijauskas and Henry Domercant, plus promising newcomers Alex Acker and Jerry McNamara. Inside, big guys Ryan Stack and Giannis Bouroussis arrived to add size and experience where the likes of Andrija Zizic, Sofoklis Schortsianitis and Nikos Barlos have already shown what they can do. For a team that fell a few points short of reaching last season's Final Four, the goals have become even bigger. Olympiacos clearly intends to fight for a title on its home soil in Athens!

Panathinaikos -- Euroleague.net reports: To that end, the Greens have strengthened what was an already super-deep roster by hiring established pros at all five positions: playmaker Sani Becirovic, shooter Tony Delk, small forward Ramunas Siskauskas, power forward Dimos Dikoudis and center Robertas Javtokas. Experience is assured by Europe's most successful coach ever, Zeljko Obradovic, and by ageless captain Fragiskos Alvertis, in his 16th season with the Greens. That's not to forget two-time Euroleague Top Defender Trophy winner Dimitris Diamantidis, nor other top-notch returnees like Mike Batiste, Dejan Tomasevic, Nikos Hatzivrettas and Kostas Tsartsaris. Together with its incredibly dedicated fans, Panathinaikos has all the ingredients to make its legend even larger in 2006-07. The backcourt will be where Panathinaikos has to make the biggest adjustments due to the departures of Jaka Lakovic and Vasilis Spanoulis, who shared playmaking and scoring duties last season. Becirovic, at point guard, has revived an injury-plagued career by becoming a selective scorer and a confident decision-maker with the ball. He will share the playmaking role with Diamantidis, one of the top stealers in the world, a player capable of guarding up to three positions.

Partizan -- Euroleague.net reports: Partizan, perennial champion in the basketball hotbed of Serbia, returns to the Euroleague for the 2006-07 season ready to reap the rewards of its commitment to young players in recent years. Over the past two seasons, Partizan has thrown its youngsters into the fire against the giants of the Euroleague. Now players like sharpshooter Uros Tripkovic, forward Luka Bogdanovic and big men Kosta Perovic and Nikola Pekovic are ready to take their club to new heights. During the off-season, Partizan opted to keep its talented core of young players while bringing back versatile swingman Dusan Kecman and inking top prospect Milenko Tepic. Petar Bozic, Novica Velickovic, Vonteego Cummings and Boris Bakic round out an interesting roster. All are familiar with head coach Dusan Vujosevic, whose teams have played well enough at times to make people forget how young they were. As they lineup continues to mature, 2006-07 could be the season for which Partizan has been waiting. Cummings will be the starting playmaker and Vujosevic's floor general. Cummings showed his defensive skills and court sense when he arrived midway through last season, after which Partizan decided to build its offense through him. He will have a lot of help in the backcourt from Tripkovic, who is ready to take a bigger role this season.

Pau-Orthez -- Euroleague.net reports: After a couple of seasons of struggling to match its own high standards, Elan Bearnais Pau-Orthez will look to some rising stars to help turn things around in the 2006-07 Euroleague. The ten-time French champions restocked the roster and hired a new coach, Gordon Herbert, in hopes of sparking resurgence. Herbert spent the summer finding a healthy mix of players with the experience, youth, size and quickness to get the job done. Always dedicated to young players, Pau landed three up-and-coming centers, teen sensations Alexis Ajinca and Ludovic Vaty, as well as 20-year-old defensive specialist Ian Mahinmi. He also brought in swingman Ricardo Greer, forward Britton Johnsen and playmaker John Gilchrist, among others. The key returnees are Pau legend Fred Fauthoux, entering his 17th season with the team, point guard Xane D'Almeida, shooting guard C.C. Harrison and forward Thierry Rupert. With that talented group, this year's Pau-Orthez squad has every reason to expect to provide some surprises, and maybe challenge for the Top 16. Pau-Orthez is loaded with talent in the backcourt, starting with Gilchrist and Harrison.

Prokom -- Euroleague.net reports: Prokom Trefl Sopot, returning to the Euroleague for the third consecutive year as Polish League champion, aims to stake its claim as a continental challenger in 2006-07. Prokom has built arguably its strongest squad yet for the new season. The team retained last year's core players and coach Eugeniusz Kijewski added some top-notch free agents, which should be enough to see Prokom try for another appearance in the Top 16 and perhaps become the first Polish team to reach the Quarterfinal Playoffs. With four of its top six scorers and two of the top three rebounders back, the additions of center Huseyin Besok, sharpshooter Donatas Slanina, forward Jasmin Hukic and playmaker Justin Hamilton could make Prokom a force to be reckoned with. Moreover, the fact that returning guards Tomas Pacesas and Christian Dalmau accounted for over 40 percent of the team's assists last year may also play big role in developing the chemistry needed to become a Euroleague contender. After reaching the Top 16 in its inaugural Euroleague campaign in 2004-05, Prokom missed out by just one victory last season. This time around, Kijewski's side figures to be strong on defense as always, but features mobile big men, tons of fire power at the wings and athletic point guards, making Prokom more offensive-oriented than in the recent past. One of those newcomers, Hamilton, figures to be Kijewski's floor general.

RheinEnergie -- Euroleague.net reports: RheinEnergie won its Euroleague place by becoming German League champion last spring, and now enjoys the opportunity to lift its country even higher in the eyes of the continent's basketball fans. With former star Sasa Obradovic now in charge from the sidelines, the hope in Cologne is that off-season additions like scoring ace Demond Mallet, sharp shooting Marcus Faison and power player Ronnie Burrell will mesh with returnees from last year's squad – including up-and-coming shooter Mladjen Sljivancanin, versatile forward Aleksander Nadjfeji, promising big man Guido Grunheid, center Martin Gortat and shooting guard Immanuel McElroy. If all those talents jell quickly, RheinEnergie could well become one of the biggest surprises in the Euroleague this season. Obradovic must have liked what he saw while coaching against Mallet, who last year helped GHP Bamberg become the first German team to qualify to the Euroleague's Top 16.

Tau Ceramica -- Euroleague.net reports: Having reached the Final Four the last two seasons, Tau arrives for 2006-07 as one of the top candidates to get there again. Tau brings back several stars, chief among them All-Euroleague First Team choice Luis Scola, one of the most accomplished power forwards in the world. Scola has plenty of talented teammates returning with him, including assist king and All-Euroleague Second Team selection Pablo Prigioni, long-distance bomber Serkan Erdogan, defensive ace Sergi Vidal and energetic center Tiago Splitter. But Tau has plenty of new faces, too, among them four former starters for other Euroleague teams - big playmaker Zoran Planinic, swingman Fred House, scoring machine Igor Rakocevic and sturdy Kaya Peker - as well as a top young prospect in forward Mirza Teletovic. Also back is head coach Velimir Perasovic, a former playing legend, for his first full season on Tau's bench. Together, they can be expected to stop at nothing in pursuit of a first Euroleague title for Tau. In the backcourt, Prigioni and Planinic are perfect complements at point guard. Prigioni, the ultimate pass-first playmaker, set a Euroleague record for assists last season.

Unicaja -- Euroleague.net reports: Now, Unicaja is back to take care of some unfinished Euroleague business – nothing less than earning a spot in the Final Four! To that end, coach Sergio Scariolo strengthened the roster with marquee talents like versatile swingman Jiri Welsch, former Euroleague Rising Star award winner Erazem Lorbek, defensive master Carlos Jimenez, energetic Kostas Vasiliadis and veteran center Iñaki De Miguel. They join returnees of such status as Euroleague all-time top scorer Marcus Brown, playmakers Pepe Sanchez and Carlos Cabezas, forward Florent Pietrus and swingman Berni Rodriguez – all solid contributors last season. Jimenez, Cabezas and Rodriguez bring added confidence from having won the 2006 World Championship gold medal with Spain, too. Together, the sky is the limit for Unicaja and its devoted fans in Malaga, Spain. The return of Welsch to Euroleague courts after several NBA seasons could be a key to Unicaja's fortunes. He will be among the main scoring options the team needs to help offset the departure of All-Euroleague Second Team selection Jorge Garbajosa.

Union Olimpija -- Euroleague.net reports: Olimpija brought back former head coach Tomo Mahoric to Ljubljana and signed up still-explosive forward Marko Milic, a hero among Olimpija fans, to lead on the court. Other marquee additions include playmaker Ender Arslan, scorer Sandi Cebular, talented big men Miha Zupan and Christian Maraker, and promising guard Domen Lorbek. Point guard Teemu Rannikko is among the key players back from last season, when the team stumbled early and never recovered. Veteran forward Ivica Jurkovic, sharpshooter Saso Ozbolt, athletic swingman Manuchar Markoishvili and power forward Hasan Rizvic also return. With Mahoric running the show again, hopes are high in Ljubljana that Olimpija has the roster to be competitive right away. Rannikko is the team's top returning scorer and assist man from last season, when he added to his already well-known shooting skills by blossoming into a quality Euroleague playmaker. Rannikko will now share time with Arslan, the long-time Efes Pilsen product, who brings big-game experience and know-how, particularly of how to get teammates involved and when to shoot.

Winterthur FC Barcelona -- Euroleague.net reports: To an existing list of shining stars from several countries, Barcelona added four marquee newcomers at two positions. The new pair of point guards will be prime-timer Jaka Lakovic and rising-star Roko-Leni Ukic, while a new center tandem features long Fran Vazquez and strong Mario Kasun. Barcelona will continue to be led by the singularly talented Juan Carlos Navarro, the All-Euroleague first-team shooting guard who over the summer added the title of world champion to his long list accomplishments. Three-point ace Gianluca Basile, versatile forward Michalis Kakiouzis, big man Denis Marconato and defensive ace Rodrigo De la Fuente also return under the direction of one of the most successful Euroleague head coaches of the decade, Dusko Ivanovic. A winning tradition and talent to spare make Barcelona a strong candidate to challenge once again for the title of Europe's best in 2006-07. Lakovic, an All-Euroleague second-teamer two seasons ago, has established himself as a winning point guard, first and foremost. Fast, strong and smart, Lakovic is not only a constant offensive threat, but a leader in the prime of his career. His perfect complement is Navarro, a global star who thrills fans with incredible quickness and his trademark floating jumper - la bomba - to his unlimited range, Navarro is one of the most unstoppable players around.

Zalgiris -- Euroleague.net reports: A renovated roster heavy on homegrown youngsters will try to meet that challenge. Those young talents will have a veteran leader in center Tanoka Beard, still a formidable inside force at age 35. They will also have a floor director more their age, but with plenty know-how, in Marko Popovic. Another pair of experienced hands picked up by Zalgiris are solid scorer Hanno Mottola and shooting ace Marcelinho Machado, although his injury has meant the late addition of Kirk Penney. Most everything else will be up to the Zalgiris youngsters, from established forwards Paulius Jankunas and Jonas Maciulis to fast-rising guard Mantas Kalnietis to big center Darius Silinskis. There are only four players older than 24 on the roster, so how fast the rest mature under the direction of head coach Ainars Bagatskis, who enters his first full season on the bench, will determine the chances of Zalgiris in 2006-07. A very interesting backcourt might be the key for Zalgiris. Thanks to fearlessness and a hot hand, Popovic has been a potent scorer in the Euroleague since he was a teenager. Kalnietis, meanwhile, is a tall, active ballhandler who looked like an all-around ace upon joining Zalgiris during last season's Top 16.
