Al Harrington interview
By Jeffrey Lenchiner | August 18, 2010
With a career average of 14.1 points and 5.8 rebounds, forward Al Harrington brings game and improves any team's frontcourt. After scoring 17.7 ppg on the New York Knicks in 2009-10, he's taken his talents to Denver and signed a lengthy deal with the Nuggets. InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner met with Harrington in July for an exclusive interview:
InsideHoops.com: So, you've joined the Denver Nuggets. Talk about how that came to be.
Harrington: They wanted me. They offered me the mid-level, and I feel like it's a great opportunity. I'm very excited.
InsideHoops.com: It's a great roster, and they needed more help up front, and you can give it at either forward spot.
Harrington: I think I add a different dimension to their big-men. They've never had a big-man that can really shoot like I can. So I'm excited to bring that to the team, and try to help them win as many games as possible. And get to the playoffs, and make some noise.
InsideHoops.com: What makes Carmelo Anthony so good?
Harrington: It's a great opportunity to be able to play with him. He's quick as a cat. And he's 240, 245 pounds, whatever he is, once he gets his weight on you there's nothing you can do. That's why I think he's one of the most unstoppable forces in the league.
InsideHoops.com: Had you not joined the Nuggets, what team do you think you'd have landed with?
Harrington: I don't know, probably Dallas. Probably. It was between the Nuggets and Dallas.
InsideHoops.com: You've got years more in the league, especially with your new deal -- how long do you think you'll stick around?
Harrington: I'm trying to get to 20 years of service. Which means I got to play seven more years. I got five on this contract, and then need to get two more.
InsideHoops.com: That's a cool goal. Makes me think of guys like Robert Parish, Kevin Willis.
Harrington: If I stay healthy, I got a chance.
InsideHoops.com: What are you doing the rest of the summer?
Harrington: Just going to hang out, get in shape for the season.
