David Lee mini-interview
By Randy Zellea | Feb. 8, 2009
Over the last three years, fans of the New York Knicks have not had much to cheer about. One of the lights shining through the clouds has been forward David Lee. With his hard work and dedication, the power forward who also plays undersized center became a fan favorite in New York.
Randy Zellea of InsideHoops.com recently spoke to Lee about his views on the season and being mentioned as a player who this season is performing like an All-Star.
InsideHoops.com: David, can you give us an overview of the first half of the season?
David Lee: I think we are a team that has made a lot of changes. We made a few trades, had a few other things happen, and our team has been constantly changing throughout the year. I think right now, compared to my previous three years, we have made a lot of good improvements, and the team is heading in the right direction.
InsideHoops.com: How does it feel to have the electricity back at MSG?
Lee: I think the fans are excited because of the way we have played at home, and that we are back in the playoff race. The fans know that we are not going to become the number one team in the Eastern Conference overnight. The fact is, they see the effort out on the court and that we are an exciting team to watch. We are repairing the team from where it has been the last few years, and I think the fans appreciate the effort.
InsideHoops.com: What do you look forward to in the second half of the season?
Lee: We look forward to the team continuing to get better and improve on our weaknesses. I believe we have been accomplishing that over the last month. If we can do that then we can be competitive down the stretch. I have never been a part of playing competitive basketball in March and April because we have been out of the race the last few years. It would be nice to give ourselves the chance to be in the thick of things and play some meaningful games. That would give the team and the fans something to be excited about.
InsideHoops.com: How did it feel to be in the conversation of possibly becoming an All-Star?
Lee: That was a very special time and an honor to be mentioned in that conversation. That goes back to all the hard work I put in. I was in that position because of my coaches and teammates and I hope to keep improving. I was rewarded by being involved in the conversation and I’m honored.
