MELO VS GOODMAN GAME PREVIEW

On Tuesday, August 30 in Baltimore, Maryland the Melo League will play the Goodman League in a basketball game that continues the 2011 NBA lockout summer tradition of really good rec-league action with big-name players showcasing their skills in intimate settings.

The Goodman league, from Washington DC, helped organize players for the visiting team, but according to the rarely-responsive person who runs the Goodman Twitter account, the Goodman commissioner Miles Rawls says hat it's not actually "a Goodman League" game. Rawls apparently helped round up some of the talent, and will announce the game, but apparently the team does not actually represent the Goodman league, for those keeping score at home.

Meanwhile, Baltimore's Melo League isn't promoting the game particularly loudly, and don't appear to have a website or Twitter account. The game reportedly won't be televised or streamed on the Internet, and InsideHoops.com has not seen any ads for the game. Maybe it's being promoted all over Baltimore. But there's certainly national interest in a battle of this level. Whoever organized it did a great job rounding up big talent.

Originally scheduled to be played Sunday, August 28, the game was delayed due to Hurricane Irene. And on Monday, August 29, the venue was moved, again. The new Goodman vs Melo game location is Morgan State University's Hill Field House arena. Game time is 7 p.m. ET, with doors opening at 6 p.m. ET. Having Melo-Goodman at Morgan State instead of the previously-planned high school gym means around 4,500 fans get to watch the action. General admission tickets cost $40, and floor seats cost $100.

Some top NBA players are reportedly set to play in the Melo-Goodman game. The Melo team All-Stars roster includes Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Chris Paul, guard Gary Neal, forward Donte Greene, guard Josh Selby, guard Eric Bledsoe, Hamady N'Diaye and possibly center Eddy Curry.

And the Goodman All-Stars roster, according to the Washington Post, includes Kevin Durant, forward Jeff Green, center DeMarcus Cousins, guard Jarrett Jack, guard Ty Lawson, forward Trevor Booker, forward Austin Daye, forward Ater Majok, Arinze Onuaku, Anthony “Gumby” Williams and Omar Weaver. Michael Beasley also may be on the Goodman basketball team if he's healthy -- but he may have been injured in China.

InsideHoops.com had been told that Dante Cunningham also might be involved in the game.

And, it's all for a good cause! Proceeds from the basketball game go to Carmelo Anthony Foundation (CAF).

InsideHoops.com will post more info on the Goodman-Melo basketball matchup as it comes available.
