Steve Nash charity soccer game
InsideHoops.com | June 25, 2008
On Wednesday, June 25, the day before the 2008 NBA Draft. Phoenix Suns star point guard Steve Nash had a charity pickup soccer game in New York City with Baron Davis (who played wearing basketball sneakers), Leandro Barbosa, Jason Kidd, and soccer stars Thierry Henry, Claudio Reyna, Jozy Altidore, Salomon Kalou, Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman, plus a few others. Nash is known for spending summers in NYC. He's a huge soccer fan and loves to play it. The event took place in Sarah Roosevelt park in downtown Manhattan.
Nash's team, wearing yellow, beat Renya's blue-wearing squad by a score of 9-4. For Team Nash, Fowler had 3 goals, Henry 2, Nash 2, Barbosa 1 and McManaman 1. For Team Reyna, Kalou had 2 goals, Baron Davis had 1, and Reyna had 1.
I'm not sure of exact attendance, because it's a very small soccer field in a park that's packed right into a standard crowded NYC neighborhood, but I estimate -- and this really just a guess -- around 500 fans around the field's sidelines, plus another 300 or so fans on the outside looking through the fence.
