The Atlanta Hawks today signed forward Dijon (pronounced D’jon) Thompson to a 10-day contract, according to Hawks’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight.
The 6-foot-7 Thompson has played in 12 games this season with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League, averaging 20.3 ppg (6th in the D-League), 9.3 rpg (t6th), 4.0 apg (18th) and 1.3 spg in 38.9 mpg (.497 FG%, .836 FT%).
The UCLA product appeared in 10 games with the Phoenix Suns during the 2005-06 campaign, and averaged 2.8 ppg, 1.1 rpg and 0.3 spg (.440 FG%, .364 3FG%, 2-2 FTs). He also played in four contests last season with Albuquerque, tallying 13.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 1.0 spg (.345 FG%, .625 3FG%, .750 FT%).
Thompson was selected by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft (54th pick overall), before being traded, along with Kurt Thomas, to Phoenix in exchange for Quentin Richardson, Nate Robinson and cash considerations. He was originally an early entry candidate for the 2004 NBA Draft before withdrawing his name from consideration.
He capped off his four-year career with the Bruins earning All-Pac-10 honors as a senior, and finished as the school’s 19th all-time leading scorer.
He will wear uniform number 7.

Atlanta Hawks Blog: Bozeman Gone By InsideHoops.com, Jan. 4, 2007
Atlanta Hawks Executive Vice President/General Manager
Billy Knight announced today that the team has waived guard Cedric
Bozeman. The 6-6 rookie from UCLA saw action in 23 games (started five
of those) and averaged 1.1 ppg and 1.0 rpg.
We liked him, because his name is Bozeman, which just sorta looks cool on the screen. And that has to count for something.
In addition, forward Slava Medvedenko will switch uniform numbers, effectively immediately, from #14 to #3 for the remainder of the season. We aren't convinced this development will automatically result in a championship.

Atlanta Hawks Blog: Team Review By InsideHoops.com, Jan. 1, 2007
The Hawks, after a decent start, have fallen apart into their usual state. They're current 9-20 and second to last in the Southeast division, and have lost 7 in a row and 9 of their last 10.
The star of the Hawks season so far has been Joe Johnson, putting up 26.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.29 steals per game on fantastic 48.8% shooting from the field. He's worthy of an all-star spot. We'll see if he makes it.
Josh Smith, who in 37 minutes per game is averaging 12.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.48 steals and 2.48 blocks per game, is having an amazingly well-rounded season. He's proven to be good at everything, on both sides of the floor. Unfortunately, he's hurt right now.
Tyronn Lue has been a pleasant surprise, with 14.7 points per game. Unfortunately, he dishes just 3.7 assists per game. And, just as bad, the reason he's scoring so much is because Speedy Claxton, shooting 31.2% for 5.7 points and 4.8 assists per game, has lousy.
Hawks lottery pick Shelden Williams has done little, shooting under 39%, which for a big guy is just awful, for 6.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
We'll be updating this Atlanta Hawks news and this Hawks blog regularly all season.
