Detroit Pistons Blog: Wizards beat Pistons
Pistons Basketball Game, Jan. 30, 2007
Washington 104, Detroit 99 -- The AP reports: Even a knee injury to Antawn Jamison couldn't mask the significance of a victory over the Detroit Pistons, a Washington Wizards win so big that even coach Eddie Jordan threw trash-talking caution to the wind -- at least for a second. "That team is a very good team. Are we done with them?" Jordan asked. Yes, coach, the Wizards and Pistons won't meet again in the regular season. "So," Jordan said, "we kicked their butts." Gilbert Arenas had 36 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in Tuesday night's 104-99 victory that kept the Wizards atop the Eastern Conference and gave the teams a 2-2 split in the season series, leveling the first tiebreaker should they finish the regular season with the same record. Washington beat Detroit twice in five days, having won 99-96 on the road last week... Chauncey Billups scored 24 points, Prince had 19 points, and Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace finished with 15 apiece for the Pistons.
Detroit Pistons Blog: Webber joining team
Pistons News, Jan. 16, 2007
Chris Webber will sign with the Detroit Pistons today. He'll probably play center alongside power forward Rasheed Wallace, with Nazr Mohammed, who was recently moved to the bench, receiving fewer minutes. It's possible the team trades Nazr or another big guy, possibly Dale Davis or Antonio McDyess.
Here is the statement Webber released yesterday:
AFTER CAREFUL THOUGHT AND DISCUSSIONS WITH MY FAMILY I HAVE DECIDED I WILL SIGN WITH THE DETROIT PISTONS. I THANK ALL OF THE INTERESTED TEAMS FOR THEIR TIME AND CONSIDERATION. JOINING THE PISTONS WILL ALLOW ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY THE GAME I LOVE IN MY HOMETOWN OF DETROIT SURROUNDED BY MY FAMILY. I LOOK FORWARD TO JOINING A ROSTER OF TALENTED ATHLETES AND WORKING TOWARDS A FOURTH NBA TITLE FOR THE PISTONS AND THE GREAT CITY OF DETROIT.
More on Webber and the new Pistons later today.
Detroit Pistons Blog: Amir Johnson to D-League
Pistons News, Jan. 8, 2007
The Detroit Pistons announced today that they have assigned Amir Johnson to the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League. Johnson, a second-year forward, appeared in four games this season averaging 1.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in 5.3 minutes. He played in three games for the Pistons last season averaging 6.7 points and scored a career-high 18 points at Milwaukee (4/17/06). Drafted 56th by the Pistons in the 2005 NBA Draft, Johnson averaged 17.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 17 games last season with the Fayetteville Patriots of the D-League.
The 11th NBA player assigned to a D-League affiliate this season, Johnson is the first player assigned to the Skyforce. In all, 37 players have been assigned by 23 NBA teams since the assignment system was put into place prior to the 2005-06 season.
