Chandler Interview

InsideHoops.com's
Jeff (6'3") met up with Tyson Chandler (7'1" - of Dominguez High School
in Compton) in Los Angeles recently, and considered challenging him to
some one on one, but instead decided it would be easier on Tyson just to
have a talk and share some thoughts.
Note
that we'll profile Chandler and all top high school and college players
after the NBA season is over, with NBA Draft and NCAA coverage.
Jeff:
You're going pro, right?
Tyson:
(smiling) Ummmm......
Jeff:
It's not official but...
Tyson:
It's not official... I just don't want to say... I don't want to draw onto
any attention to my things that we don't really need.
Jeff:
How have people's attitudes changed towards you now that you're the man
and possibly entering the draft?
Tyson:
(laughs) Umm, I mean, you have a whole lot of friends, a lot of cousins
come out of the woodwork, a lot of family, I mean, it's quite different,
but I just try to stay to myself, stay to my family, my inner circle, and
to others I pay no attention.
Jeff:
If you could play for any team, who would it be?
Tyson:
It don't matter to me.
Jeff:
Ok, who's your favorite team - a hometown team I assume?
Tyson:
The Lakers. The Clippers now, though, I love the Clippers. Lakers and Clippers.
I love both of them.
Jeff:
Who are your favorite players? Who do you love to watch?
Tyson:
KG. Kevin Garnett, that's my favorite. Kevin Garnett and Rasheed Wallace,
are two great players, I love watching those two play.
Jeff:
Ok, and when you do eventually go pro, what might be running through your
head while you're standing on stage being drafted?
Tyson:
Just that, you know, I finally achieved a little something. You see, but
I mean it's not too much of an achievement if you go in there and don't
do anything, so, it's going to be a real blessing, it's going to be a lovely
day, but I mean right after that I gotta be ready for the season.
Jeff:
And who's your role model in life?
Tyson:
My mother. She's the one that keeps me strong and makes sure I stay well
grounded, so I have to say my mother.
